Wespine Blue: General Attributes
Wespine Blue Treated Framing Timber is Deemed to be Resistant Against Termites and European House Borers in Australia.
Specifically Wespine Blue is approved for protection of framing and construction timber
in H2 - F applications (interior and protected from direct weather and moisture) against
attack by the major pest termite species such as Coptotermes spp, Schedorhinotermes and
Cryptotermes. However Wespine Blue is not approved at this time for protection of
timber against Mastotermes darwiniensis and therefore, Wespine Blue treated timber is deemed not to be
termite resistant in regions north of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Wespine Blue Has Been Exhaustively Tested and Researched
Extensive testing on the effectiveness of Wespine Blue treatment against termites
has been carried out for over three years in four
locations throughout Australia. The organisations conducting this test work
are respected and accredited testing service providers, specifically the CSIRO
Division of Forest Products, NSW and the Queensland Department of Primary Industries
Forest Research Laboratory. This testing has supported registration by the
APVMA (formerly the NRA), Australian Standards and complementing State
Legislation. Other attributes of the treatment and the treated timber have
been examined and reported by suitably qualified agencies or companies.
Efficacy against European House Borer has also been confirmed.
Wespine Blue is Suitable For a Range of Timber Sizes
Wespine Blue is suitable for treatment of any available timber sizes, up to 300 x 45, covering the great
majority of light framing requirements.
Wespine Blue Preservative Fluid is a Low Hazard Material
The treatment fluid is
waterbased*,
with bifenthrin as the active ingredient.
Wespine Blue represents a significant advancement in timber treatment technology using small
amounts of a very effective synthetic pyrethroid, bifenthrin, in the outer envelope of the timber.
This envelope treatment means a very efficient use of the chemical and although repellent and
toxic to termites and borers, minimises the use of the active ingredients and thus minimise any
risks in handling the timber and the environment. The active solution used in the spray application
is water-based with a low toxicity dye and is applied in a controlled environment within the Wespine Mill .
Wespine Blue should be handled using gloves and when cut, sawn or otherwise worked a suitable mask and
eye protection should be used as is recommended for any timber based products.
